The 2020 Election was overwhelming to say the least. Mixed in with all the crazy news stories that still continue to play out, one of my favorite revelations was that Stacey Abrams is also a romance author under the pen name Selena Montgomery. Naturally, her books shot to the top of my to-be-read list. The first one that I was able to obtain was actually the second book in a trilogy called Deception. Despite being book number two, it worked well as a stand-alone novel. It follows the story of Fin Borders, a high stakes professional gambler and Caleb Matthews, an undercover FBI agent. They are both drawn to a small town in Georgia for their own personal reasons but join together to take on a dangerous criminal enterprise.
Despite being a tad melodramatic and far-fetched, I enjoyed reading this book and I will more than likely read the rest of the trilogy. Plus, it gave me an excuse to make my mom’s peach cobbler! It was very fitting for the Georgia setting and to honor Stacey Abrams and the work she is doing in Georgia.
